"Perfect Actions"

Raven's Lesson

April 3rd 2009

"The Reminder"

Today I took a rest in the blissful peace on the deep snow beside the frozen river. The sky was perfectly blue with a bright sun warmly shining. I brought my air mattress and space blanket to make the most of the soft snow to lie on.

My rest was comfortable and refreshing as the timer on my watch signaled 3:00 PM. I lay on my back with my arctic down parka and overalls on to keep me warm; it wasn't long before it became uncomfortably warm so I had to roll over a bit.

My time there wasn't much different than a time lying on a beach except for the fact that there was not  a soul around. The sound of sparrows and chickadees filled the air. After about an hour the sound of the small birds slowly went away and not long after that the noise of a snow machine filled the air with its foul smell of engine exhaust.

My watch timer signaled 4:00 PM when this began to happen. I continued to lay there and something seemed uncomfortable. At about 4:30 PM I heard the rough "caw" of a raven in a near by tree. The noise of this bird was unpleasant and it didn't go away; as a matter of fact, other ravens seemed to hear the call and began to call back as if in preparation to gather in a flock.

What happened in my time of resting there in perfect peace to becoming a item to be sized up for ravens to peck over? Well the only thing that happened is that time had changed, that's all. There is a time to consume all the goodness of nature and there is a time to be consumed by nature. Somewhere in the 2 hours I was laying there, I passed over an invisible line that made me an item to be consumed rather than a participant in a grand orchestration of nature's dance.

So goes my life and times these days. I must keep my eyes on the Light; for when the light gets hard to see I must move to a better vantage point in the grand scheme of things. Survival depends totally upon keeping the Light in my sights and moving with the Lord of the Dance.

Speak not evil one of another, brethren.--JAMES iv. 11.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice.--EPH. iv. 31

.

If aught good thou canst not say
Of thy brother, foe, or friend,
Take thou, then, the silent way,
Lest in word thou shouldst offend.

ANON.

If there is any person to whom you feel dislike, that is the person of whom you ought never to speak.

R. CECIL.

To recognize with delight all high and generous and beautiful actions; to find a joy even in seeing the good qualities of your bitterest opponents, and to admire those qualities even in those with whom you have least sympathy, this is the only spirit which can heal the love of slander and of calumny.

F. W. ROBERTSON.

A Word From

Robert Service

This is the song of the parson's son, as he squats in his shack alone,
On the wild, weird nights, when the Northern Lights shoot up from the frozen zone,
And it's sixty below, and couched in the snow the hungry huskies moan:
