Voice of Hope

And a little child shall lead them. Almost every day I'm blessed by the beauty of fellowship with those who have pure uncorrupted spirits; it had been an all pervasive social experience for 11 years which changed upon my return to a desperate land that I can't know.

Something absolutely amazing happen last week while teaching children. We were going over a section on poetry and I happened to mention that I had a few poems on my web page we could look at. At the moment I went to my home page I was suddenly surrounded by many children making a great effort to write down the URL for this web page. I made an effort to block the BIG letters on the main page from their view and efforts to get the address because I know what is on my web page.

So I had to think and ask myself some basic questions about my home page and its contents. I asked myself, "Is what I have on my web page healthy for children?" Is my web page safe for children to wander through? I realized that there is nothing on my web page that would offend a child because of the magic of images and vocabulary. If people ever read this web page, they will find that I don't use vocabulary and concepts that children can access. I began to think, perhaps I should begin to write my pages so children can enjoy them, you know like using simple words and relating ideas in story form.

I know a strange lady at school, who kept weird pets as a rule. I entered her room at just after noon and found the creepiest sight. In a home made for guppies she filled it with yuckies like orange peels, green meat and old jam. I stood back grabbed my shirt and saw something squirm in the dirt and asked, "What on earth could it be?" The children all smirked when I asked, "Is that a quirk?" "No silly." their reply as they lifted the cover to spy on the garbage filled slimy demise. My goodness dear children what is it in garbage that smells and does frightfully squirm? .Oh these said the children are the pets of the lady who has a love for this tank full of worms.

What is written above would be easily understood by a special group of children who know the secret behind the little story; all I need to do is add a few images and it becomes a short children's story. This is about my speed, by that I mean I think I do well to write short stories but I don't possess the focused attention necessary to create novels. This little web page hobby of mine is replete with a trail of unfinished stories and research exposés.

The above little story uses simple English to convey a funny reality for some children but on another level it communicates an unclean spirit that actually inhabits the lives of some people in this world. On the child's level it's a true yet funny story but for adults it's a frightening reality.

I must endeavor to communicate on multiple levels.

Meaning Was Conveyed Gracefully

Ye shall serve the Lord your God, and He shall bless thy bread and thy water.--EX. xxiii. 25.

What I possess, or what I crave,
Brings no content, great God, to me,
If what I would, or what I have,
Be not possest, and blest, in Thee;
What I enjoy, O make it mine,
In making me that have it, Thine.

J. QUARLES.

Offer up to God all pure affections, desires, regrets, and all the bonds which link us to home, kindred, and friends, together with all our works, purposes, and labors. These things, which are not only lawful, but sacred, become then the matter of thanksgiving and oblation. Memories, plans for the future, wishes, intentions; works just begun, half done, all but completed; emotions, sympathies, affections,--all these things throng tumultuously and dangerously in the heart and will. The only way to master them is to offer them up to Him, as once ours, under Him, always His by right.
