It Ends In Light

(After a wonderful vacation I found an image that sums up the moment)

Antarctic Total Solar Eclipse

Credit and Copyright: Fred Bruenjes ( moonglow.net )

Explanation: The Sun, the Moon, Antarctica, and two photographers all lined up in 2003 Antarctica during an unusual total eclipse of the Sun. Even given the extreme location, a group of enthusiastic eclipse chasers ventured near the bottom of the world to experience the surreal momentary disappearance of the Sun behind the Moon . One of the treasures collected was the above picture -- a composite of four separate images digitally combined to realistically simulate how the adaptive human eye saw the eclipse. As the image was taken, both the Moon and the Sun peaked together over an Antarctic ridge. In the sudden darkness , the magnificent corona of the Sun became visible around the Moon.

This is my Friend Charlie.

He is first person in my life to address me as "Sir" when he first introduced himself to me more than 4 years ago. His kind respect created a new name for me by which thousands of other students on this island now address me. He along with a number of other wonderful students in my life are my help, counsel and coordinators for my entire life and mission here in Korea.

The first student in my life is named Cyrus and I was so inspired by his genius with computers back in 1978 when he was in high school and I was just beginning to discover my purpose in life as a teacher at 27 years old. Cyrus and I are still in contact on a regular basis. Now in his mid forties there isn't much difference between us as the river of time always brings us to the same ocean.

The youngest student in my life is Marcus at age 6 who is teaching me once again the wonderful mystery found by taping a rubber band to a lollypop stick.

I'm grateful to God for each and every student in my life. The most heart breaking moments in my life are not when people die but when they reach puberty and somehow disappear. I keep trying to track them down to help them remember that there is safety when you remain among many friends in the playground.

They are our future. Help them build a beautiful world and just maybe when they are your age they may help save your life. Charlie helped save my life many times over.

Immanuel Kant's Categorical Imperative bolstered by parsimony has made the list of people necessary to protect the precious innocence of children VERY short .

Today's Note: Conscience is like a precious flower that can be cultivated and made more beautiful day by day. Conscience like a tender plant can also be broken or burned which leaves behind a barren land unable to feel the warm sunshine or gentle breezes that give life.

Meaning was Conveyed Gracefully

November 19

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.--JAMES i. 26.

I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue.--PS. xxxix. I.

No sinful word, nor deed of wrong,
Nor thoughts that idly rove;
But simple truth be on our tongue,
And in our hearts be love.

ST. AMBROSE.

Let us all resolve,--First, to attain the grace of SILENCE; Second, to deem
all FAULT-FINDING that does no good a SIN, and to resolve, when we are
happy ourselves, not to poison the atmosphere for our neighbors by calling
on them to remark every painful and disagreeable feature of their daily
life; Third, to practise the grace and virtue of PRAISE.

HARRIET B. STOWE.

Surrounded by those who constantly exhibit defects of character and
conduct, if we yield to a complaining and impatient spirit, we shall mar
our own peace without having the satisfaction of benefiting others.

T. C. UPHAM.
