Solar Splendor

A Total Solar Eclipse Over China
Credit & Copyright: Bill Buckingham

Explanation: What's that black dot over the Sun? The Moon. This past weekend, the Sun went dark during the day as the Moon completely covered it. The total solar eclipse was visible over a thin swath of Earth extending from northern Canada to China. As shown above, many sky enthusiasts gathered to witness the total or partial solar eclipse, which lasted only a few minutes. The above image was taken during totality near Barkol in Xinjiang , China , with the Barkol Shan mountain range visible on the horizon. Although the brightest parts of the Sun are covered, the normally invisible corona of hot gas surrounding the Sun became prominent. Just to the upper left of the Moon darkened Sun are planets Mercury and Venus. The increased darkening of the sky toward the right indicates the darkened atmosphere created by the passing shadow cone of the total solar eclipse . The next total solar eclipse will occur next July and be visible in parts of India and China.

Lonely Dragonfly

September 1st 2009
My wife sleeps after the nightly battle with mosquitoes which seem to be so numerous in this tiny hotel room. I have felt a twinge of guilt for not keeping my mental html note pad current.

I sit here wondering how I as a man am suppose to live the life of a kindergarten student inside a physical body designed for activities that people 3 to 4 rimes their age are frequently engaged in.

Humm..I listen to the fluttering wings of a large dragonfly I let into the small room of this hotel tonight. My wife was worried about this rather large insect on our room.

I began to tell her that the dragon fly was cold and lonely after not meeting his girl friend tonight, She wondered how I knew it was a male dragonfly and I told her that all the female dragon flies were down by the pond dining on mosquitoes with their husbands and the strange day time insect came knocking on our screen late tonight out of loneliness and hunger. His wing continue to flutter next to the warmth of the hotel room ceiling.

Today was a great day as I finished a dream come true. An individual who gave me instructions on how to locate a good collection of science books was young. attractive and very sensitive to what makes the world a happier place. She is from the same ethnic group as my wife but her blood flows in currents that keeps a smile on her her husband's face. My thoughts turn to the possibility of how blood transfusions work and hope my friendly dragonfly finds food to eat in this room before the sands run out of his clock.

English Lessons

from the days when

Meaning was Conveyed Gracefully

Oh, that Thou wouldest bless me indeed, and that Thine hand might be with me, and that Thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!--I CHRON. iv. 10.

Ye shall serve the Lord your God, and He shall bless thy bread and thy water.--EX. xxiii. 25.

What I possess, or what I crave,
Brings no content, great God, to me,
If what I would, or what I have,
Be not possest, and blest, in Thee;
What I enjoy, O make it mine,
In making me that have it, Thine.

J. QUARLES.

Offer up to God all pure affections, desires, regrets, and all the bonds which link us to home, kindred, and friends, together with all our works, purposes, and labors. These things, which are not only lawful, but sacred, become then the matter of thanksgiving and oblation. Memories, plans for the future, wishes, intentions; works just begun, half done, all but completed; emotions, sympathies, affections,--all these things throng tumultuously and dangerously in the heart and will. The only way to master them is to offer them up to Him, as once ours, under Him, always His by right.

H. E. MANNING.
