A Child's Memory
Above Is An Image of The Largest Moon of 2009

What is your earliest memory? For me it was when I was about 3 years old. I remember my brother coming to my bed side on a very warm Cuban evening. He crept up on me in the dark as the moon shone in through the window and said, "The moon is gonna get you." Well for a three year old this was a pretty traumatic thought and as such left an impression in my mind I will never forget.
It's amazing how we can recall things in our earlier life if they are impressive enough to remember. I can also remember about 2 years later being with my older brother again caught in an Idaho hail storm. We tried to make it home under cover of a cardboard box. I remember the thumping sounds on the box as large hail stones pummeled our portable shelter; I also remember this shelter failing and our having to take refuge in a local bus station where bus drivers waited out the storm and chuckled at our adventure. I can remember the bus drivers but can't recall my brother by my side.
Much later I remember playing with my brother by chasing him with a mouth full of water. He ran before me all in fun and slammed the kitchen back door on my out stretched arm which went through the quarter inch think glass window cutting open my wrist down to the arteries leaving me to stand their in shock as blood squirt all over the kitchen. As I remember. my mother came down and froze in shock but my brother had run away and was nowhere to be found as I was bleeding to death.
Then recently I remember my brother telling me I should call my younger sister about my first time arrival from a flight from the other side of the world only to get off that flight after 30 years absence to find out my brother was once again not there to be with me.
"The moon is gonna get you." My first memory delivered in the fear of a child's mind by my brother. I don't know where my brother is now; I think the moon came to get him and he is no longer in this world.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report,--think on these things.--PHIL. iv. 8.
As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.--PROV. xxiii. 7.

Still may Thy sweet mercy spread A shady arm above my head, About my paths; so shall I find The fair centre of my mind Thy temple, and those lovely walls Bright ever with a beam that falls Fresh from the pure glance of Thine eye, Lighting to eternity.

Make yourselves nests of pleasant thoughts. None of us yet know, for none of us have been taught in early youth, what fairy palaces we may build of beautiful thought--proof against all adversity. Bright fancies, satisfied memories, noble histories, faithful sayings, treasure--houses of precious and restful thoughts, which care cannot disturb, nor pain make gloomy, nor poverty take away from us,--houses built without hands, for our souls to live in.
