What Does Your Life Reflect?

“The good old days” is a common expression applied to a conversation when referring to an occasion in the past reflecting times with greater gratification than the moment the expression is used. Why do some people use this expression? Is there any connection between the unstoppable forward march of time and the level of experiential joy we find in life? Is it possible to capture a frame of time the way we would a photograph and not just look at it but actually return to that time?

Why do some people use this expression? Perhaps the law of physics that dictate the irreversible flow of time holds sway over the way we view our life in this world. If this is so, then our view is no different than any other transient life forms that blossom wilt and die; however, what if there is another aspect to our existence that sets us apart from and make us totally unique creatures in the scheme of life and the flow of time.

Is there any connection between the unstoppable forward march of time and the level of experiential joy we find in life? Are we such creatures endowed with some power to move in time the way we move across a room? I suppose the answer to this question can be answered in part by considering how much your physical circumstance influences your existential experience. Those whose lives are ruled by existential experience will find themselves afloat on a river with the growing roar of times inevitable water fall. For the precious few with power to move beyond existential restraints, the roar of the water fall can come and go as they discern the subtle current that allows them to move to the branch in the great river which flows amidst the ambient peace which precedes the merge of the adjacent great river that drifts into the boundless ocean where space and time no longer have limits. The ability to locate this peaceful branch can’t be bought, learned, or obtained by any factor associated with a life ruled by temporal slavery but is rather the domain of those whose being has its residence in the realm reigning over all space and time.

Is it possible to capture a frame of time the way we would a photograph and not just look at it but actually return to that time? The answer to this question returns to the above photo in which we can propose an answer by saying it all depends upon our “sphere of life.”  Take a close look at your sphere of life experience and consider what it reflects. Does it reflect a life where the Light of Life can be seen? If your answer to this question is “yes” then you must be a being with total mobility unlimited by the constraints of space and time.

Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.--PHIL. iii. 13, 14.

Yet I argue not
Against Heaven's hand or will, nor bate a jot
Of heart or hope; but still bear up and steer
Right onward.

J. MILTON.

It is not by regretting what is irreparable that true work is to be done, but by making the best of what we are. It is not by complaining that we have not the right tools, but by using well the tools we have. What we are, and where we are, is God's providential arrangement,--God's doing, though it may be man's misdoing; and the manly and the wise way is to look your
disadvantages in the face, and see what can be made out of them. Life, like war, is a series of mistakes, and he is not the best Christian nor the best general who makes the fewest false steps. He is the best who wins the most splendid victories by the retrieval of mistakes. Forget mistakes; organize victory out of mistakes.

F. W. ROBERTSON.
