Life Guard

His Mysterious Lesson

There was a Father who loved to use new ideas to formulate educational programs for His children. It was a wonderful hobby where He could write programs in an effort to educate His children in ways of greater altruism.

This Father had written many programs to encourage the development of altruism; some failed due to inherent flaws within the original programming code. Because of these inherent code errors, he had to delete the file and begin again. With His recent program He designed it so His children had shorter times in the conceptual classroom to acquire the altruistic lesson of prime importance.

After His children had mastered the science lesson which gave them knowledge of how to shape and change nuclear forces, He determined that it was now time to bring the prime lesson to a close. To do this He took one of His children and made him a lifeguard with a unique responsibility.

While the rest of His children were at play amidst the wonderful waves of the ocean in the world classroom, His son the lifeguard was stationed to watch over them to insure their safety. In order to insure the lifeguard did the job defined by his unique position, the Father wrote into the program a special subroutine which connects the very forces of life and health of His children to the lifeguard. As long as the lifeguard did his work of watching over, protecting and assisting the children at play, his life remained strong and healthy.

The lifeguard had difficulty accepting this unique program design because he thought his daily responsibilities of watching over the safety of the children changed from day to day.  There were times the lifeguard thought he could take a break from his work and this happened usually on the weekends. During this time away from his post the dynamics of the special subroutine began to operate in the opposite direction. It took the lifeguard a long time to find the pattern of the special subroutine.

During the weekend while he was away from his post, the very forces that made the sun rise, flowers bloom and stars shine were taken away from the lifeguard and he found the life of his physical body in peril. It was during this time when he was away from his post that he realized the children were still at play and in danger without his presence with them. The dictates of his Father's special subroutine linked his life to the life of those he was designed to watch over; if he left his post, the protection of the children was removed, if the protection of the children was removed so too did his Father remove the life forces from his body.

It did take a while for the lifeguard to learn this lesson.  His Father wanted him to keep notes on what he learned while in the conceptual classroom which required the lifeguard to keep a regular diary of his learning experience.

Now that the lifeguard knows of the mysterious design of the subroutine written into the educational program, he finds a greater urgency to stay with the children as much as possible without taking time away. If any children die then the lifeguard dies. If the lifeguard stays on post to save lives then his time in the classroom is extended in a way that allows him to experience a kind of life reserved for graduates of the program written by his Father.

Meaning Was Conveyed Gracefully

Because Thy loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise Thee.--PS. lxiii. 3.

Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.--LUKE xvii. 33.

O Lord! my best desires fulfil,
And help me to resign
Life, health, and comfort, to Thy will,
And make Thy pleasure mine.

WM. COWPER.

What do our heavy hearts prove but that other things are sweeter to us than His will, that we have not attained to the full mastery of our true freedom, the full perception of its power, that our sonship is yet but faintly realized, and its blessedness not yet proved and known? Our consent would turn all our trials into obedience. By consenting we make them our own, and offer them with ourselves again to Him.

H. E. MANNING.

Nothing is intolerable that is necessary. Now God hath bound thy trouble upon thee, with a design to try thee, and with purposes to reward and crown thee. These cords thou canst not break; and therefore lie thou down gently, and suffer the hand of God to do what He please.
