From Stars Falling

Looking through windows few will understand is my life these days. To say it hasn't been easy coming to a land where I left children suffering so greatly is an understatement. Back in 1997 I left behind children who don't even have a tenth the blessing that Korean children have, has been on my heart since I left. After finding that Korean children have all the love and security any child could ever hope for made me realize that I was only trying to over fill cups that were already running over. It took a while to realize that I needed to come back and help those I had left behind with broken dreams, at a time in their life when all should be joy.

I have had a chance to compare the world found in the eyes of children from two different worlds. In the eyes of Korean children all I could see were bright shining stars even though a few had difficulties at home. However, what I have seen in the eyes of some children back where I left a world out of control is the same stars but they appear as the one above.

To see star light in children's eyes is the joy of being able to see a hopeful future; yet to look into a child's eyes and see only falling stars is a source of heart break for which I daily pray and labor to see their star back in place shining with stable brilliance.

As mentioned so many times before, my time runs out and when I'm not with children I'm sending out a kind of SOS through my web pages. This will all come to an end as He who has sent their angels of protection will not stand by any longer and see His stars fall.

Unlike Korea with is multifaceted system of social support and provision for each and every child, the U.S. only has two major aspects of society that affect the life and stability of children; this reconnaissance has been allowed for reason which are now becoming clear. I arrived here with the dream of imparting the beauty of Korea's love and honor for children. It has been shocking to discover that the condition of the western family has come up wanting in the scales of cultural comparison with Korea, but nowhere near as shocking as the discovery of a major malfunction in the other institution meant to assist a child on their way to adult life.

It was on this day that I woke up to the prodigious magnitude of western social deterioration, to such an extent that efforts to facilitate amendments is tantamount to the proverbial shoveling sand against the tide. I looked into the eyes of children who 3 months ago had the most wonderfully brilliant and stable stars in their eyes only to see those same stars losing stability and receding in brilliance as they enter the blazing descent to oblivion propelled by a force outside their family.

In a metaphorical sense the custodians of care were found feeding the love starved holders of the star with spoons that were filthy with the same infection that plagues the families of the west. Naturally, it is I who turns out to be the fool, for how can a society with dysfunctional family unity ever produce uninfected custodians?

This mixed up view of a mission in life is corrected if I simply realize that I didn't come here to "deposit" a cure for America but rather I came to "acquire" the essence of the very material to produce an inoculation for the uninfected who need to be protected. How else does science create a way to protect the uninfected except by getting a pure sample of the pathenogenic material by which to manufacture a method of inoculation. The sample has been collected with only the final need to search for the rare natural immunity that may exist.

This was a miracle day as I had the privilege of seeing a place where the integrity of American family unity being augmented by the wonderful care and love of others outside the family. This experience has been the antithesis to much of what I have experienced in other areas of society. Children being cared for right down to the meticulous individual needs of those with special challenges. In truth, though Korean children are cared for by society in general, there is no social facility to care for needs of unique children.

It was one thing I noted in Korea; though society was unified and self monitoring, there was no social institution to deal with exceptional children or adults. Since the family unit is the foundational corner stone of Korean society, anyone who doesn't fit into the pattern define by the whole of Korean society is detached from the collective leaving only the family of that exceptional individual to find shelter and support in their family and not in society in general.

I wrote about this finding as a kind of "crack" in an otherwise perfectly blue sky in an earlier writing.

Korean society isn't perfect but is does have many virtues.

My sons, be not now negligent: for the Lord hath chosen you to stand before Him, to serve Him.--2 CHRON. XI. 11.

.

Bright be my prospect as I pass along;--
An ardent service at the cost of all,--
Love by untiring ministry made strong,
And ready for the first, the softest call.

A. L. WARING.

There are many things that appear trifles, which greatly tend to enervate the soul, and hinder its progress in the path to virtue and glory. The habit of indulging in things which our judgment cannot thoroughly approve, grows stronger and stronger by every act of self-gratification, and we are led on by degrees to an excess of luxury which must greatly weaken our hands in the spiritual warfare. If we do not endeavor to do that which is right in every particular circumstance, though trifling, we shall be in great danger of letting the same negligence take place in matters more essential.

MARGARET WOODS.

The will can only be made submissive by frequent self-denials, which must keep in subjection its sallies and inclinations. Great weakness is often produced by indulgences which seem of no importance.

M. DE MOLINOS.
